Younhee Paik,

Painter & Foundation President

Younhee Paik is a dedicated and renowned painter who has exhibited in more than 40 solo exhibitions in museums, including the Korean National Museum, Venice Biennale (1995), New York Stony Brook Museum, San Jose ICA, and galleries throughout the U.S. and South Korea. As a volunteer, she taught visual art at the Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland for three years.

Andrew Rhim, Guitarist and Music Educator

Born in San Francisco, Andrew is a Bay Area native and a professional guitarist, music producer, and engineer. He began playing classical piano from a young age, but grew up listening to Simon & Garfunkel and the Beach Boys with his parents, which led him to fall in love with the guitar. A graduate of Berklee College, Andrew has toured across the U.S. and internationally, including Australia, Singapore, the Philippines, and many more

Kangsik Kay, Program Advisor

Kangsik Kay earned a B.A. in architectural design from Han Yang University in Seoul, South Korea. In 1971, he immigrated to the U.S. and worked as an architect for 35 years. Now retired, he enjoys painting, gardening, and supporting CHIM classes.

Hyunji Park, Music Educator & Video Editor

Hyunji Park is from Seoul, South Korea, and holds a GPD in piano performance from the Peabody Conservatory. She has over 20 years of experience as a soloist, collaborative performer, music educator, choir conductor, arranger, and director of music organizations. She has worked with students from diverse backgrounds, using music to connect people and support community healing. She is currently an active member of MTAC, Artistic Director of Celeste Solo Ensemble, Music Director of Canaan KUMC, and Co-Music Director of CHIM Studio.

Jean AHn,

Composer & music Educator

Born in Korea, Jean Ahn finished her B.A. and M.M. at Seoul National University and her Ph.D. at UC Berkeley. Her creative output includes works ranging from solo instruments to full orchestra, as well as choral, dance, and electroacoustic music. She is the director of Ensemble ARI and a lecturer at UC Berkeley.

Board

Younhee Paik, President: Founder of CHIM studio (Younhee Paik’s Studio for Art and Music) in 2013, Younhee Paik serves as the foundation’s President. She received her BFA from Seoul National University and her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute.

Youngik Paik, Vice President: Youngik Paik is an attorney based in Boston, MA. He served for over seven years as an Assistant United States Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts, where he investigated and prosecuted a wide range of federal crimes and assisted with community reentry programs for prisoners. Youngik received a B.A. from Tufts University and a J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law.

Jeewon Paik, Secretary: Jeewon Paik is a mother of two based in New Jersey. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. in Art History and enjoys working with children by volunteering at her daughters’ school and church.

Veronika Paik, Treasurer: Veronika Paik is an investment professional based in Boston, MA. She previously worked in investor relations roles at Sirios Capital Management and Wellington Management. Veronika graduated from Suffolk University, summa cum laude, and is a CFA charter-holder.

Yeuen Kim, MD: Yeuen Kim is a staff physician working in medical homeless outreach at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Division. She loves working with trainees and faculty through medical humanities (narrative and visual art to improve medical education and practice) as a clinical assistant professor (affiliated) at Stanford University School of Medicine.

James Kim: James Kim is a partner and co-founder of Qatalyst, a technology-focused investment bank that provides advisory services for mergers and acquisitions. James graduated from Stanford University with a degree in economics and currently lives in the Bay Area.

Jean Ahn: Jean Ahn is a composer and lecturer at UC Berkeley. She holds a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and both an M.A. and a B.A. from Seoul National University.


VOLUNTEERS

Eddie kim

Eddie Kim is currently a student at Bishop O’Dowd High School. He plays cello in the Oakland Youth Orchestra and is also an active scout in the Boy Scouts organization, who holds the Star rank. In his free time, he enjoys talking with friends, playing cello, and drawing. He enjoys helping people with art.

Abigail Kim

Abigail is currently a student at Head-Royce School who enjoys art, music, and sports. She loves playing the guitar and singing with everyone and sharing the joy of creating at CHIM!

Jared Chang

Jared is a first year student in Berkeley City College and the newest volunteer at CHIM studios. He enjoys playing the drums, which he first learned how to do at 8 years old and has learned multiple genres such as jazz, funk, pop, and rock. As a fellow neurodivergent himself, Jared is very eager to get to know the people in the community.
